More than 15 years ago, I became interested in making pysanky and afterwards attained a certain measure of success in this art. This not enough and I decided to deepen my knowledge in this area. I was immediately faced with the shortage of information and this shortage became a shove into collecting and painting of authentic pysanky.

Many researchers are learning about the pysanky of Hutsul'shchina now. For this reason,I decided to collect information about the pysanky of Pokuttya first of all and also because this is where my mother was born. In the villages near Kolomyia, when I asked the older women who made pysanky what characters they depicted on their pysanky and whether they use old characters, the main answer was: "So, we draw crosses, circles, diamonds. If you wanted to see old patterns, you should have been here 50 years ago!". Such a pitiful state of affairs compelled me to engage in research work.

On this site, except for my sketches of pysanky made during research in Pokuttya and my own work, you will see the photos of real pysanky made by the expert hands of master pyanky artists ,which share with us, the ancient decorative patterns. We will explore the origins and history of pysanky, technique of making pysanky, and the various features of the pysanky of Hutsul'shchina and Pokuttya. Because I am extremely busy with my work, and a great deal of time is needed to organize of the information and material, I will add to the site gradually.

I consider it necessary to mention that, in addition to myself, there are many ethnographers, researchers and simple collectors who are worried about folk art, and a making of making of pysanky in particular, and who have considerable achievements in their ethnographic arsenal. Moreover, my collection of about 200 pieces cannot be compared with the collections of museums, where examples are measured in the thousands, and it goes without saying about authenticity.

A great many people have given help in my work: family, friends and many anonymous persons. Special thanks to my spiritual and creative teachers - to the Chairman of regional cell of Union of folk masters - Mr. V.V. Korpanyuk and to the churchwarden of Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church of Tallin (Estonia) - Mr. Anatoliy Lyutyuk. Thanks to Mr. Volodymyr Nikiforuk from Horodenka for his financial support - because of it, I had opportunity to collect material from the region of Horodenka. Ihor Nikiruy (Kolomyia) gave considerable help during my research in Snyatynshchina, thanks also to Anatoliy Kropodra (Kolomyia) - as the photographer at the initial stage of the project, to Mark Jesko (USA) for assistance in correction of english version of the site. I am extremely grateful to Ihor Martynets (Kolomyia) for the professional and high-quality creation and administration of this site. Lovingly grateful to my wife Ol'ha for patience, to my children Virochka and Olezhik, in particular because from early childhood they are proud of that they are UKRAINIAN.
Thank you, Mommy!
